A Disappointed Fan Is Still a Fan. How the creators of Lost seduced and betrayed their viewers.By Emily NussbaumSo, I’m pretty much on board with the finale for what it is. The fact that it comes from a devoted fan, makes it a strong argument against. It’s only fair to consider both sides though.Clickthru for story

Marc Oromaner’s Lost In Myth: A Tale of Two Kates—Why You Can’t Escape Fate

Posted by Marc Oromaner on Thursday, February 11th, 2010 at 12:22 am

Some faiths even claim that we continually get reincarnated with the same set of souls lifetime after lifetime. So your best friend now could’ve been your father or mother in a previous life. Your lover could’ve been a teacher or competitor. Your boss could’ve been an enemy on the battlefield. We keep coming back with these same souls to work out these issues, just as the Losties seem to be doing in their parallel timeline, and these connections and experiences have all been planned in our soul story from the start.

From a narrative perspective, this spiritual metaphor is easier to understand if the flash-sideways is happening after the events of 2007 because it’ll give us a sense of closure.

esprit de l'escalier: Lost Finale Impressions

SPOILER ALERT!!

See, this explains everything. Hahaha. I know this is probably an ACTUAL recap and I am not mocking the Korean language, but It was freaking hilarious to me since I only speak english….

I really like this part….내 끊임없는 미스

Intervals of Awesome: CONFUSED/PISSED OFF ABOUT LOST FINALE? READ THIS BY BIOJECT

Part 1
The flash-sideways timeline is NOT purgatory dammit!

I have finally come up with a perfect theory that fits the show that isn’t “drr it’s purgatory” because frankly people who just think the flash-sideways is purgatory aren’t thinking hard enough. They are just taking the finale at face…

‘The End’: Thoughts

jameslafleur:

So I think I’m able to actually process the finale, now. I won’t do a long-ass recap, because we all saw it. I’ll just talk briefly (ha) about my favorite moments, what it meant to me, and why I can’t get it out of my head almost 48 hours later.

I was extremely nervous to watch the finale. Not because I was afraid of its quality, something that I know many were afraid of (especially after ‘Across the Sea’ which was important thematically, but a screenwriting mess), but because it really was the end. No more weekly mindfucks, captivating characters, heart-rendering stories. No more. I am absolutely proud of the fact that I was there at 8 p.m., September 22nd 2004, and watched the show religiously, almost never missing a live episode. Make no mistake of it: Lost is my favorite TV show of all time. So when the time finally came for me to say goodbye, I felt like I was losing an old friend. I’m glad I was able to do it the way I did, very appropriately, the way I began watching the show: at home, with my mom. My mom is also a die-hard Lostie, we’d often call eachother during commercial break to exchange an ‘OH MY GOD’ or two. We began the show together, and we ended it together, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Well done, sir.

The Final Season of LOST as Seen by Someone Who Has Never Seen LOST - Final Recap

Oh. My. God. The final Recap is up by this guy. A-ma-zing!

Some highlights:

Angry that Hurley has bothered him, he holds up the “Do Not Disturb” sign indignantly.  If you didn’t want to get disturbed, you shouldn’t have answered the door, chief.

Sun and Jin are at the hospital.  Jin: “How do you feel?”  Sun: “A little sore.” Jin: “That’s what happens when you get shot.”  Sun: “Thanks, jerk.”

“You’re the obvious choice.” “He didn’t choose me, I volunteered.”  While technically correct, I believe Jacob was laying game on you pretty hard.  He might have even said that he was happy you volunteered, so let’s not get too cavalier about this, Jack.

Juliette asks him if he wants to get coffee. “I’d love to get coffee but that machine ate my dollar and I only have one left.”  That’s why Sawyer is awesome.  As is protocol to this point, they make out because they touched hands.  They have no plans to restore power to the hospital.

They go and put mud water into a disposable water bottle.  We’ve really gone downhill on the quality of drink in these transfers.  Jack doesn’t bless the water so this is clearly fake. After Hurley takes a drink.  Jack says “Now you’re like me.  Handsome and incompetent.”

It’s a place you all made together so you could find one another.  You probably could have done better than just imagining LA, but that is just an indictment against the lack of imaginations in you all.

————————-

TOTALLY CLASSIC! I’m going to miss these recaps a lot.

The LOST Finale Decoded, From A Bad Robot Insider

handelsaurus:

“The Island:

It was real. Everything that happened on the island that we saw throughout the 6 seasons was real. Forget the final image of the plane crash, it was put in purposely to f*&k with people’s heads and show how far the show had come. They really crashed. They really survived. They really discovered Dharma and the Others. The Island keeps the balance of good and evil in the world. It always has and always will perform that role. And the Island will always need a “Protector”. Jacob wasn’t the first, Hurley won’t be the last. However, Jacob had to deal with a malevolent force (MIB) that his mother, nor Hurley had to deal with. He created the devil and had to find a way to kill him — even though the rules prevented him from actually doing so.

Thus began Jacob’s plan to bring candidates to the Island to do the one thing he couldn’t do. Kill the MIB. He had a huge list of candidates that spanned generations. Yet everytime he brought people there, the MIB corrupted them and caused them to kill one another. That was until Richard came along and helped Jacob understand that if he didn’t take a more active role, then his plan would never work.

Enter Dharma — which I’m not sure why John is having such a hard time grasping. Dharma, like the countless scores of people that were brought to the island before, were brought there by Jacob as part of his plan to kill the MIB. However, the MIB was aware of this plan and interferred by “corrupting” Ben. Making Ben believe he was doing the work of Jacob when in reality he was doing the work of the MIB. This carried over into all of Ben’s “off-island” activities. He was the leader. He spoke for Jacob as far as they were concerned. So the “Others” killed Dharma and later were actively trying to kill Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Hurley and all the candidates because that’s what the MIB wanted. And what he couldn’t do for himself.

Dharma was originally brought in to be good. But was turned bad by MIB’s corruption and eventually destroyed by his pawn Ben. Now, was Dharma only brought there to help Jack and the other Canditates on their overall quest to kill Smokey? Or did Jacob have another list of Canidates from the Dharma group that we were never aware of? That’s a question that is purposley not answered because whatever answer the writers came up with would be worse than the one you come up with for yourself. Still … Dharma’s purpose is not “pointless” or even vague. Hell, it’s pretty blantent.

Still, despite his grand plan, Jacob wanted to give his “candidates” (our Lostaways) the one thing he, nor his brother, were ever afforded: free will. Hence him bringing a host of “candidates” through the decades and letting them “choose” which one would actually do the job in the end. Maybe he knew Jack would be the one to kill Flocke and that Hurley would be the protector in the end. Maybe he didn’t. But that was always the key question of the show: Fate vs Free-will. Science vs Faith. Personally I think Jacob knew from the beginning what was going to happen and that everyone played a part over 6 seasons in helping Jack get to the point where he needed to be to kill Smokey and make Hurley the protector — I know that’s how a lot of the writers viewed it. But again, they won’t answer that (nor should they) because that ruins the fun.

In the end, Jack got to do what he always wanted to do from the very first episode of the show: Save his fellow Lostaways. He got Kate and Sawyer off the island and he gave Hurley the purpose in life he’d always been missing. And, in Sideways world (which we’ll get to next) he in fact saved everyone by helping them all move on …

Now…

Sideways World …” (clickthrough for the rest)

Wow. This is enlightening. Read this to understand.

Have you all seen this recap. This really made my day. Click thru to read.
Some highlights:
Jack stumbles back to the magic light cave and makes Hurley drink water and now Hurley is the guardian of the island? Give me a break.

I don’t mean give me a break about Hurley. Congrats, Hurley. You earned it. But give me a break about Jack knowing how to do that. I mean, seriously, Jack has been guardian of the island for two minutes, he let the light go out, the island is falling apart, and he’s been stabbed. How is he Professor Island all of a sudden? I have a feeling that the only thing that just happened is that Hurley drank some river water and is going to break an axle and die of cholera, because Jack clearly has no idea what the hell he is talking about
….and
Oh hold on a second. I know that this is the season finale of Lost, an incredibly complicated show filled with loose ends and we only have a few minutes left to explain things and wrap up the saga, but Sawyer just really needs to straighten out his dollar bill before putting it into the vending machine.
